COVID-19: How Can I Help? Supporting Community Organizations and Groups

April 06, 2020

Residents have questions asked on how they can help the community in these difficult times. Here is a list of organizations and groups working in our community, the services they provide, and how you can support and help out.

The Calgary Food Bank

The hamper program is accepting clients through phone calls only.

Calgary Meals on Wheels

This service is still operating if you are in need of prepared meals.

Kerby Centre

The income requirements have been suspended for the Grocery Delivery Program (Thrive) for seniors in the community.

Calgary United Way

Calgary is a caring community; we’ve shown that together, we are stronger. Through crisis, we take a stand to make sure that no one is left behind and that everyone is taken care of. We rally together for the safety of our families, loved ones, and neighbours. Today, we are calling on you for your compassion, strong sense of community, and urgent support to help individuals affected by COVID-19.

The Mustard Seed

The Mustard Seed offers services that help people make positive and lasting change in their lives.

The Drop-In Centre

The Calgary Drop-In Centre exists to alleviate poverty. We care for chronically homeless people with community supports, resources, and housing. We collaborate with stakeholders; we advocate; we lead.

WINS Women in Need Society

  • Calgarians are encouraged to give to WINS in two ways:
    • Put aside clothing, furniture and soft goods as a future donation for WINS
With many Calgarians staying home, WINS is asking that the city not forget about them. Says Ramchuk, “If you have gently-used items you no longer need or are taking this time to do some household spring cleaning, please consider holding on to donations and giving them to WINS once we are operating again.”
    • Make a cash donation to WINS
      • Calgarians can also make a cash donation to WINS through their website. Says Ramhcuk, “Immediate donations will support our core operating team to address our city’s most vulnerable populations through vital resources and in partnership with Calgary’s other vital agencies.” (Click here for online donations.)
  • For people in need, help from WINS is available by phone at (403) 255-5102 ext. 226.

Bro’kin Yolk helps Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids

Brown Bagging 4 Calgary Kids is an amazing program that helps support these families who are in need of food for their children.
Unfortunately, since they only provide meals at school and due to the recent closures of classes, they are currently testing different solutions to ensure they are able to provide for the 5000 kids they feed everyday.

For a free lunch for your child, please call your desired location between Monday through Friday from 8:30AM-10AM and let our amazing staff know how many lunches you need. By 11:30AM the lunches will be ready and available for pickup!

Each lunch will contain the following: a sandwich, a few snacks/treats and a juicebox. We will try to change it up on a daily basis. Don't hesitate to call or message us if you have any questions. We just want to give back as many ways as we can to the kids who need the food in order to thrive.

Lunches will be available between Monday through Friday at any of the following locations:
- CREEKSIDE: #130 12580 Symons Valley Rd NW, (587) 317-5743
- MAHOGANY: #1410 7 Mahogany Plaza SE, (403) 457-5955
- SIGNAL HILL: 5691 Signal Hill Centre SW, (403) 685-3316
