Regarding COVID-19
March 09, 2020
In light of questions surrounding COVID-19 (commonly known as the coronavirus), here is key information about the City of Calgary’s response.
We are actively monitoring the situation and working closely with Alberta Health Services, who are the lead on COVID-19 and we will take their recommendations as things evolve. The current risk level in Alberta is still considered low.
Our Emergency Operations Centre is monitoring the situation and carrying out additional planning and response actions.
Hand-washing properly and frequently is the single most effective way of preventing the spread of viruses like influenza and COVID 19. Let us all do our part to be careful.
The Alberta Health Services guidelines include:
- Wash your hands frequently. Use hand sanitizer when you can’t wash your hands with soap and warm water
- Catch your germs.
- Clean as you go.
- Avoid touching your face.
- Virtual high five/foot five: Consider adjusting your greeting practices from a handshake to no contact options to reduce the risk of spreading germs.
For more information, please refer to the following Alberta Health Services website. The website includes information on the current risk level, about coronavirus, information on how to prevent and prepare your household, and the actions being taken by Alberta’s public health officials.
